Bunker
Hill opened for business in 1930 in Bedford County, Virginia, as
a family-owned cannery called Sam McDaniel & Sons. The Bunker
Hill brand name originated from the small community in which the
plant was located.
When Sam McDaniel died in 1949, his three sons began a major
expansion of the company. In 1950, they constructed a federally
inspected plant and began advertising its original product, Beef
& Beef Stock.
The company was later sold to a group of stockholders in 1964
and renamed Bunker Hill Packing Corporation. Castleberry's
Brands acquired Bunker Hill Foods in 1995. Today, the brand
continues to specialize in canning high-quality beef dishes.
